Things I am excited happened in 2011
January - I told my rabbi-ex story at a school night. Brandon Gulya (the future director of my one woman show) happened to be there and asked me what I was planning to do with the story. I had nothing planned for this story. I just wanted to tell it. The conversation with Brandon got me thinking.
February - I moved in with my dude J.R. on the upper east side. I really like the 4,5,6 and the tiny dogs I see on the street everyday.
March - I decided to write a one woman show with the rabbi-ex story. I started writing it and contacted Brandon Gulya to ask him to direct.
April - I was cast as the March Hare in the Off-Broadway Show “Alice.” It played at the Soho Playhouse and closed in September.
May - I auditioned and modeled for Playboy. I should write a show based on that insane experience.
June - Comedy wrestled for the last time (for a while) as the J.A.P. in UCBW’s Cage Match. This allowed me to play fun, silly, new characters like Korya and Tanya Tiara.
July - Performed in another wonderful Hogwarts Improv Society show.
August - I submitted my one woman show and I got an email that they couldn’t fit my show in for September, but they could for October (Gave me a whole month to make it “perfect”) I also had a great time performing, watching shows, and hanging with new and old friends at DCM.
September - I won best story of the night at Todd Bieber’s show Animated Stories, My prize was having my story animated by talented animator and nicest guy in the world Ed Mundy (Archer). It was the first thing I had ever won, aside from best napper in preschool (God, I love sleeping). UCBComedy also put one of my videos on their front page. And The Magnet produced a video I was a writer for, for a PGA 48 hour film contest which we ended up a finalist.
October - Performed my one woman show Convicts, Skinheads & Rabbis to a packed audience at UCB and people laughed through out the whole show. It was an amazing feeling. I performed the show again with a few tweaks in December. I’m going to find out what the status of my show is this coming week. Fingers crossed.
November - I turned 24. I was asked to be in my friend Nev’s show “Ilyana Saves the World.” Which is a hilarious show that you should be on the look out for in 2012 when it spanks. Also, my improv team JFIT started working on sketch videos.
December - I was asked to join the cast of my favorite show I had seen at UCB this past year, Newsadoozies. Guys, I love musicals and I love this musical. When Brian called me to ask if I would be interested, I screamed and jumped around as though I had won an oscar. I am a huge nerd. Newsadoozies is spanking January 19, 2012 and I am so excited it is bordering on annoying to JR. You gotta see this show. It is hilarious!
Things I Learned This Year:
1. At the beginning of 2011 some one posted a quote about how a person should strive to be so good no one can ignore them. I learned that the quote is almost right. It should be “You have to fight hard for your chance to get heard. When you have their attention, you have to be so good that people can’t go back to ignoring you anymore.” Or something to that effect.
2. Time manage video games so you don’t play a game 8 hours straight and wonder where the day went. Or stay away from video games all together if you can. However, if it’s anything Arkham, Zelda, Assassins Creed, or Professor Layton, then that can prove to be difficult. So just time manage.
